As
President of the Canadian Association for Civilian
Oversight of Law Enforcement (CACOLE), I’d like to
welcome you to our website. I hope your visit here will
be informative.
Since 1995, CACOLE has focused on advancing the
concepts, principles and application of civilian
oversight in Canada. Our goals are reflected in our
by-laws:
▪To provide for the establishment, development,
education and technical assistance of/for the civilian
oversight of law enforcement;
▪To develop a national forum to provide an informational
and educational clearinghouse and a publication resource
of educational information for the public and
organizations in the field of civilian oversight of law
enforcement;
▪To encourage the highest ethical standards in
organizations which oversee law enforcement;
▪And to educate the public by developing mechanisms to
enhance police and community relations, educate law
enforcement agencies, and encourage law enforcement to
respond with sensitivity to citizens’ issues and
complaints.
Our user-friendly website reflects
our objectives and contains information about civilian
oversight of law enforcement both nationally and
internationally.
By clicking on the navigation bar you
will find a range of information offering details about
us, our annual conference, past events and membership
information, as well as material in our resource
library, our newsletter, and Canadian and international
links.
On behalf of the Board of Directors,
I am also pleased to announce that CACOLE’s 2011
conference will be hosted by the Law Enforcement Review
Board in Calgary, Alberta.
It will be an informative conference
and I invite you to mark this important event on your
calendar now! For conference updates, please continue
